Functional Medicine Seminar – SIBO – The Microbiome – June 11

Functional Medicine Seminar – SIBO – Microbiome

Functional Medicine Seminar – SIBO is Small Intestinal Bowel Overgrowth of bacteria is a potential cause of constipation dominant IBS.  It has only come to light in the last few years that our microbiome plays a significant role in the pathenogenesis of IBS. Research conducted by Ken Brown, MD and his team indicated that much of the symptoms of IBS are tied to the microbiome and dysbiosis in the small bowel. It is imperative to understand the role of SIBO, which harbors the cycle of free hydrogen and methane production leading to IBS related symptoms of bloating, constipation, abdominal discomfort and changing bowel habits. In short, bacteria that are misplaced or over abundant produce free hydrogen as a byproduct, observed as undigested polysaccharide of carbohydrates. Intraluminal small bowel is a terrific site for anaerobic microorganisms such as Archaebacteria due to the proliferation of Hydrogen.

Archaebacteria is a known methanogen in the human GI tract, which doesn’t belong in the small bowel. Methanogenesis occurs within the archaebacteria via reductase enzyme during cell metabolism, yielding methane as a byproduct. Methane functions as a mechanical source of intra-luminal distension, as well as an attenuator of regular motility.

Speaker: Ken Brown, MD – Gastroenterologist

Dr. Kenneth Brown, MD and Board Certified Gastroenterologist practices locally in Plano, Texas. He formed KBS Research as an effort to find an effective natural solution to helping his patients with symptoms of IBS and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO). He and his team have developed a nutraceutical that has been over 88% effective on patients suffering from bloating, constipation and abdominal discomfort. It has no known side effects and is manufactured right here in the United States of only the purest ingredients. Dr. Brown stands behind this product and uses is widely in his practice with his patients. Join us for an informative morning as he shares his current work on SIBO.
